उत्तरकाण्ड 7.31

हे पक्षिराज गरुड़, जब से राम के प्रताप का अत्यंत प्रबल सूर्य उदित हुआ है—

O Garuda, king of birds, ever since the exceedingly powerful sun of Rama’s glory arose—

उसका प्रकाश तीनों लोकों में भर गया; बहुतों को सुख मिला और बहुतों के मन में शोक हुआ।

Its light filled all three worlds; many found happiness, while many others felt sorrow in their hearts.

जिन्हें शोक हुआ, उनका मैं विस्तार से वर्णन करता हूँ। सबसे पहले अविद्या रूपी रात नष्ट हो गई।

I shall describe those who suffered sorrow. First, the night of ignorance was dispelled.

पाप रूपी उल्लू जहाँ-तहाँ छिप गए; काम और क्रोध रूपी कुमुद फूल सिमट गए।

The owls of sin hid here and there; the night-blooming water lilies of desire and anger closed up.

विविध कर्म, गुण, काल और स्वभाव—ये चकोर रूपी तत्व कभी सुख नहीं पाते।

Various actions, qualities, time, and inherent disposition—these, pictured as chakora birds, never find happiness.

ईर्ष्या, अभिमान, मोह और मद रूपी चोरों की चालाकी किसी भी ओर नहीं चलती।

The tricks of the thieves—envy, pride, delusion, and arrogance—work nowhere.
